Thomas Theocharides, MD Dr. Theocharides joined CHEMED with over thirty years of private practice experience in Obstetric and Gynecologic medicine. A graduate of Faculty of Medicine, University of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, Dr. Theocharides is a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
Shirley Cohen, Certified Nurse Midwife. A well-known figure on the OBGYN scene, Shirley Cohen is highly skilled with over 32 years of experience. A graduate of Georgetown University Shirley taught midwifery at Yale University, Harvard Medical School and Boston University School of Public Health. She was the clinical director of St Margaret's Hospital for Women in Boston and founded the midwifery service at Harvard Vanguard and led a team of 14 midwives at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. She has received multiple Diamond Awards for clinical excellence.
Christopher Eswar, OBGYN brings to CHEMED the unique skills and training necessary to perform minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, a highly specialized field. Dr. Eswar is currently a member of the Obstetric/Gynecologic staff of Monmouth Medical Center where he earned the Robert J. LaMagra Award, given to the resident who demonstrates the most empathy and compassion for his patients, during his role as Chief Resident there. He completed his fellowship at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. Dr. Eswar has also received the Award for Excellence in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery by the American Urogynecologic Society and the Resident Achievement Award by The Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and is a member of several professional societies, including the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, ACOG and the AMA.
Mayano Ochi, Certified Nurse Midwife attended SUNY Downstate Medical Center, where she received her B.S. in
Nursing and M.S. in Nurse-Midwifery. She joined CHEMED with a broad range of experience, including
work at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn Birthing Center, and Maimonides Medical Center.
She is also the co-founder and former Managing Director of International Medical Response, an
organization that helps educate healthcare providers in underdeveloped countries.
Carole Powell, Certified Nurse Midwife is a certified nurse midwife with decades of experience. A graduate of Long Island
University and SUNY Health Science Center, Nurse Powell brings to CHEMED an impressive range of
knowledge and expertise. She has practiced nurse midwifery at Maimonides Medical Center, Newark
Community Health Center, North Hudson Community Action Corporation, and other established medical
institutions. Nurse Powell also served as Director of Women's Health at Horizon Health Center, where
she oversaw a department of 30 employees.
Patricia Ruane Garduno, Nurse Practitioner is a certified nurse practitioner in Women's Health who received her
M.S. from the UCLA School of Nursing. Nurse Garduno has cared for patients at numerous respected
medical institutions, including the Jewish Renaissance Medical Center, VNA Central Jersey Community
Health Center, and the South Bay Family Healthcare Center in California. Nurse Garduno speaks both
English and Spanish.
